Transition

Malvern Valley Primary School looks forward to welcoming your child as they begin their first year of school. Our Prep Transition program plays an important role in your child’s preparation into their primary school journey. Your child will spend time and meet with different teachers and students during these sessions. The teachers and groups they will be assigned to does not necessarily reflect the final 2026 classroom structure, which will be finalised for their fifth session.

A Day in the Life of Prep

2027 Prep Transition program will occur on the following dates in November and December. Save the dates!

Prep 2027 Transition Dates
Session 1– Friday 6th November 9:30am-11am
Session 2– Friday 13th November 9:30am-11am
Session 3- Friday 20th November 9:30am-11am
Session 4– Friday 27th November 9:30am-11am
Session 5- Tuesday 8th December 9:30am-12:30pm (half day transition with their 2027 teacher)

Other Activities to Support Your Child’s Transition

Preschool Visits
Our prep transition coordinator and prep staff members arrange some visits to pre-schools/kindergartens to meet children before they start their transition sessions at MVPS. We observe and talk to your child so they know a ‘familiar face’ and spend a little time talking to their kindergarten teacher to find out about them.

Meeting Other Students at our School
So that your child feels connected to our school, students from another level visit our Foundation spaces for short periods during transition sessions. Students play or read with your child and make them feel welcome. Next year when your child is settled at school we arrange for a ‘buddy’ to support your child.
