Excursions & Camps

Our school is proud to include incursions, excursions and a school camp as part of our learning program.

Excursions/Incursions occur at all levels and provide opportunities for authentic learning experiences

Annual Camps occur once students are in Grades 3/4 and 5/6. Camps are developmentally appropriate, yet challenging for the students. A rotation of camps is used to ensure students have a new experience each time.

    Snow Camp

Students in Grades 3 – 6 have the opportunity to attend Snow Camp to Mount Buller every second year. This camp, over three days, provides students with the opportunity to develop their skills, build cross-grade relationships and for some, be challenged by a new experience.

    MVPS Kitchen Garden Program

We are thrilled to announce that exciting developments are underway for the MVPS Kitchen Garden! This initiative aims to enrich our curriculum by providing hands-on learning opportunities about sustainability, nutrition, and gardening.

Our kitchen garden will not only serve as a practical learning space but also as a source of fresh produce for our students. Students will have the chance to cultivate herbs, vegetables, and fruits, learning valuable skills along the way.

Stay tuned as we unveil more details about the kitchen garden and other exciting updates soon.

    School Musical

The whole school musical, held every two years, is one of the biggest events on our calendar and it is getting bigger and better with each production! We are continually amazed by our students’ talent, enthusiasm and persistence. Grade 5/6 students take on lead roles, whilst all grades present a class item. The thoroughly entertaining matinee and evening performances are the culmination of many months of hard work and dedication. We are extremely proud of our musicals and the opportunities they provide our students both on and off the stage. A Mini Concert is held every alternate year where each Grade performs a dance routine before a whole school audience.

    Previous productions include:
    2023 – Disney’s The Lion King Junior
2021 – Fair Dinkum Mate! Ultimate Australia
2019 – The Dark Force Is With You (Technology taking over the world!)
    2017 – Twisted Tales
    2015 – The Time Machine

    Talent Show

Our very popular MVPS Talent Show is held every two years. It is always a huge success, withover a quarter of our students from across the school participating. The event is held in good spirits with students supporting each other and enjoying the wonderful talent on display. Acts include singing, dancing, comedy, magic, drama and music. It is always great to see such an impressive variety of skills and interests. It is yet another example of the love for Performing Arts we have at Malvern Valley.
Students are judged on their preparation, creativity, and the entertainment value of their act by our friendly panel of staff judges. First, second, and third place awards are presented at the end of term assembly. Our magnificent Performing Arts captains host the event. They are supported by our other Grade 6 leaders who operate the music, organise microphones and props and ensure the show runs smoothly. Our Talent Show is made possible thanks to a wonderful team effort from every member of our school community.

    Choir

We run a weekly lunchtime choir group that is offered to students in Grades 3-6 who are eager to explore the magic of music and singing, regardless of prior experience. Our choir fosters and facilitates friendships across year levels and gives students a chance to build their confidence while trying something new. Students have ample opportunities to show off their hard work at assemblies and open nights throughout the year and songs that are performed are hand-picked by students and are often inspired by their favourite musicals and movies.

    Library Club

In addition to scheduled library sessions with their class, students are able to visit the library during lunchtime. Lunchtime library sessions are held three times a week, allowing students to borrow from our wonderful collection of books with assistance from our well-read librarians who are always keen to offer book recommendations. During this time students are also able to read in comfort – there’s plenty of lilypad cushions for all who come – or, if they prefer, can play card or board games with friends. Uno anyone?

Wednesday and Friday Morning Sports Club

Every Wednesday and Friday all students are welcome to join in on the Before School Sports Club. On a Wednesday, the focus is on short and long distance running, as well as the opportunity to play modified games with students from other year levels. On a Friday, the students have more student voice and are allowed to pick whichever skill or game they would like to participate in such as Basketball, Football, Soccer, Netball and many more!

    Lunchtime Sports Club

Every week, we invite students from Years 1 to 6 to join in on the excitement of our Lunchtime Sports Club, a place where fun meets fitness in a variety of structured sports activities. It’s more than just play; it’s an opportunity for our older students to shine as leaders, guiding and collaborating with the younger ones. This creates a harmonious and inclusive atmosphere where every student feels involved.

We pride ourselves on offering games that are accessible to everyone, ensuring that all students, regardless of their skill level, can participate and enjoy. Plus, our club is driven by the voices of our students with various surveys given to students throughout the school year.
